Not up to the mark: Dhoni
The DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) has come to an end and the tournament has found its maiden champion in Rajasthan Royals. The Jaipur franchise beat Chennai Super Kings by three wickets in the final. At the post-match conference, Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that his team wasn't up to the usual standards and committed some crucial errors in the final.
Dhoni affirmed that he won't pinpoint anything as a reason for their loss in the final and his team is ready to accept the responsibility of the loss. He said, "We were not really up to the mark. We had few weak links in the field. If there are mistakes made, you really have to accept that."
But the skipper further added that his team has played some good cricket throughout the tournament, especially in the final, so he isn't felling that bad.
The Royals lost three quick wickets at the start but Shane Watson and Yusuf Pathan went on to share a solid 65-run stand. Dhoni says allowing the duo to share a vital partnership was his team's mistake.
The Super Kings played their semi-final and final matches in the space of 24 hours. The 26-year-old feels that T20 cricket is very demanding and one has to be ready for it. He said, "You have to be physically at your best. Like Test and one-day cricket, even T20 has its different demand."
The Ranchi-born India ODI captain informed that now with the IPL being over, he would like to take some a good restful break ahead of the next series.
Yusuf Pathan proved to be the difference between the two sides in the final. The Super Kings' captain stated that a batsman like Pathan must not be allowed by the opponent to stay at the wicket as he possesses the quality to score quick runs.
Dhoni also praised his opposite number Shane Warne for his motivational leadership of the Rajasthan Royals' team.
"Warne has used the potential and talent available to the fullest extent and he did really well on the field," averred Dhoni.
The Jharkhand player used all his frontline seamers upfront and didn't keep them for the death overs. Dhoni said that he had limited options and had to go on with the bowler who was doing well. But he also added that all his bowlers did well and were good with the new ball.
